Nami Mun and Salvatore Scibona win Whiting Writers' Awards!
Last night in a ceremony at the Morgan Library, the Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation announced ten winners of the 2009 Whiting Writers’ Awards and among them were two Riverhead authors—Nami Mun, author of Miles from Nowhere and Salvatore Scibona, author of The End. In its 25th Anniversary year, the awards, which are $50,000 each, have been given annually since 1985 to writers of exceptional talent and promise in early career. This years winners include poets, fiction and nonfiction writers, and playwrights and past winners have included Denis Johnson, Tony Kushner, Alice McDermott, William T. Vollman, David Foster Wallace, Mark Doty, and Colson Whitehead. See the complete list of this year’s winners here.
