Paula Butturini Talks to NPR's Morning Edition

When Paula Butturini met John Tagliabue, both were foreign correspondents based in Italy. They fell in love abroad and were married, but while covering the uprising against Romanian President Nicolai Ceausescu in 1989, Tagliabue was shot in the back by a sniper. He nearly died. But his physical injuries triggered a psychological battle that was, in many ways, even more damaging. Listen to Paula Butturini, who wrote about her family’s struggle in her memoir Keeping the Feast, discuss the road to recovery and the healing powers of food on NPR’s Morning Edition.

Listen to Paula Butturini, author of Keeping the Feast, discuss the healing powers of sharing of food around the family table on The Leonard Lopate Show. After her husband John was shot and nearly killed by sniper fire while reporting on an uprising in Romania, the recovery process was complicated and difficult, but aided by the sustaining powers of food, family, and friendship they were able to triumph and overcome his illness.
