PEN/Faulkner to host an event with Nick Hornby and Ben Folds

The PEN/Faulkner Foundation is presenting an exclusive evening with Riverhead author Nick Hornby and singer/musician Ben Folds on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 7:30 pm in support of the forthcoming Lonely Avenue, a collaborative album of “musical short stories” featuring lyrics by Hornby and music and vocals by Folds, and of the paperback release of Hornby’s latest novel, Juliet, Naked. Nick will read selections from Juliet, Naked, Folds and Hornby will then perform selections from Lonely Avenue and discuss making the album. Lonely Avenue, a collaboration between two eminent artists—American singer-songwriter Ben Folds and novelist Nick Hornby—will be released September 28 on Nonesuch Records. The album features music and vocals by Folds and lyrics by Hornby (author of Juliet, Naked, High Fidelity, Fever Pitch, etc.), with string arrangements by one of the most influential pop string arrangers of all time, Paul Buckmaster (David Bowie, Elton John, Leonard Cohen). The Washington Post's Best Books of 2009

Critics from The Washington Post have weighed in on the books of 2009 and three Riverhead books made the cut. Joel Richard Paul’s Unlikely Allies was a pick for best of in American History, and  Nick Hornby’s Juliet Naked and Sarah Waters’ The Little Stranger made the fiction list. Plus, Jonathan Yardley picked Juan Gabriel Vásquez’s The Informers as the Best Novel of 2009.
